hand written post it notes, observational drawings of cadavers, embroidery, Bunny, Grandpa Martwick’s chair, family pictures, sewing thread, fabric.
Within the context of the show, “Note to Self”, paper post-it notes transform into fabric sized post-its becoming the embodiment of the physical self. If cataloging the mundane is a vehicle for deconstructing external philosophical foundations, then the act of stitching becomes the vehicle for deconstructing internal philosophies of oneself. On each inhale and exhale there is a piercing of the fabric. Slowing down with every movement of the needle between my fingers allows for the slow emergence of awareness towards my stream of consciousness, communal and familial systems of philosophies and their construction in identity. To connect to my biological self I turn to the processes of textile practices. It’s here that I have found through stitching, embroidery, and weavthat fiber holds the imprint of the physical body. And it is through this imprint that I find a connection back to the deepest cellular impressions of psychological and emotional systems.
